Backlogged! September 11th's show featured a block of newer stuff in the form of Destruction Ritual, a creation off of Norma Evangelion Diaboli featuring at least one member from Antaneus, and some really great throwback extreme metal from Siege Column and Deathhammer, off NWN! and HHR respectively. Some Hate Forest-intensity came from Canada's Heilig Vuur, and a track from HF themselves off their new pissed-off album. I also peppered in some classic Bal-Sagoth off their disney metal masterpiece Battle Magic.
This past week's surprise publish of Volahn's long-awaited 'Popol Vuh' had me do a mini-tribute to Mesoamerican black metal, playing some other lesser-heard stuff from the broader scene. I also unleashed some Burning Winds upon my show's airwaves, whose shitstained sloppy black metal might have permanently lowered the bar of entry for bands I play (in the best way possible). Truly one of the best albums of the year - we need this kind of outsider shit in the scene.
